Nea Isika

This piece is a bit old, from back in May, but it's still something I'm pretty happy with and wanted to share! This is Nea Isika, one of the main characters of Children of the Glyph. She's Makhe's adoptive mother, a woman who is talented in both the pen and sword. She has mastered many different combat styles and weapons. Although she lives in the South, which is Makhe's homeland, she is from the distant West. Nea is reserved and mature, and is quiet about her past, uninterested in talking too much about her life before she moved. Nea currently operates a small Western-style dojo in the slums of Andak, a cramped, humid riverside city, helping to teach the local youth in self-defense. A fateful encounter several years ago brought Makhe into her life, and Nea decided to take in the homeless child and help her learn to fight and become stronger.

Early on, we learn that Nea was in fact once a famed wielder in service to the most powerful lord in the West, and one of the highest-ranking people in the entire Continent. Nea's beloved aegial, Chardis, was thought to have been killed in battle, which left Nea so heartbroken that she vowed to discontinue that life and start over. She soon learns that Chardis's death was faked--and that the people behind this are the Continent's most powerful house, the aptly-named Great Family.
